This little bugger was found at the bottom of the ladder off the pier. And when I say "little", I'm not joking.
He doesn't look very happy, does he? In the first picture he looks like a baby box turtle, but we think he's a snapper judging by his claws.
Because of his species, he is not going to be a permanent resident. We're probably going to release him in South Rabon creek back behind our house or below the spillway at Rabon. Still, he's a nice photography subject, though more than a little unwilling.
He was wiggling around the whole time, so I didn't get many good pictures. It was hard to tell if he was mad or curious the whole time, but I'm guessing the former.

ReplyDeleteNice job Phreckle. Yeah, I agree, he doesn't look too happy. And yep, defintely a snapper. The claws basically give it away. One of these days, that little guy is going to have a big bite.

Writer, you have no idea. We've already killed one out of our pond before, and we had to strangle him after emptying over 10 rounds of .22 ammo into him. At the lower side of 10-15 pounds, he was the smaller one of the two we've seen. This little guy isn't going to see our pond again.
ReplyDeleteWow he's tiny! And that is a lot of ammo! He may be cute now but not for long. I've helped my cousins nab a turtle once in their pond, they were afraid it was a snapper so we chased it all around the pond in a leaking canoe, it was really fun! But it turned out to be a painted turtle.
